20/20 gallery and several new images!

 If you go to the Galleries page on my website you will find a gallery of the best 20 images from my "Twenty Nights in Twenty Days" project. I am pleased with the results. While doing the project I noticed several other blogs which encouraged people to do a 365 project. I love to shoot but I can't imagine trying to come up with a good interesting image for everyday of the year. On my project I had a couple of days where I wasn't too thrilled about the results. It is just going to happen occasionally. Once I hit the road when my art show schedule starts back up there will be days when it will be quite difficult to find the time to shoot something interesting, process the images, and post it to my blog. Some days there just is a lot of other things that need to get done. I did look at a link from a "365 project"  image that was posted on a blog. The first 20 out of 23 images were snapshots of the guys 3 year old doing things. Several were cute but most were boooooooring! Some were poorly exposed and poorly processed. I would never make my fans suffer through something like that.

Soooooo..what do these three images have to do with my Twenty Twenty project? Absolutely nothing.  Sometimes I review and process images immediately after a trip or shoot. I'm always real excited about some of them but it's still a good idea to review them at a later date. Your emotions, expectations, and memories have faded by then and you can look at what you shot with a new and fresh outlook. Many times instead of shooting new work you can create some nice images by reviewing and processing some of what you already have. Bryce was taken back in November. The rainbow was taken back in late August while in Colorado. It started sleeting on us right after taking it. A small image on the internet probably doesn't do it justice. Zion was shot several years ago.

Shame, Shame, Shame!

As a photographer who primarily sells my work at Art Shows, I occasionally will comment about the art show world. Today I'm going to give you a link to a blog which comments about two shows that should receive some criticism for their recent actions. http://artshowtips.blogspot.com/ Look at June 2 & 3.
The two images today are from my Utah trip back in April. The first one is a cropped portion of The Organ and Three Gossips. I like it but not sure how big I should print it. The lower image was taken at the Fire House Ruin west of Blanding, Utah. I have a vertical version that has been in the print bin at recent shows. For some reason I keep seeing people look at it upside down and have found it put back in the print bin that way. Does anyone have a problem telling which way is up in this version?

Greetings from Moab, Utah!

Boy, the last few days have been hectic. I finished up at the Deep Ellum show on Sunday. My wife and I jumped on a plane Monday morning and flew to Grand Junction, Colorado. We then drove to Dead Horse Point State Park near Moab, Utah and camped out. I photographed the first image at sunset. It is a view of the La Sal Mountains from the Park. The next morning I got up and photographed a bend of the Colorado River from Dead Horse Point. We then spent a night in the Needles area of Canyonlands National Park. After leaving Canyonlands yesterday, we drove to Moab and spent a night in a hotel. I did need to charge batteries, check email, download my images, and spend some time on the internet. We did not have any electricity at the campgrounds and battery life on my laptop is limited.

Yesterday evening we drove through Arches National Park and hiked in an area called The Windows. For my sunset photography we drove about 25 miles east of town to Photograph the Fisher Towers with the La Sal Mountains as a backdrop. We got there just in time to get some nice light before it ended for the day. As we drove away in the approaching darkness, we got a view of a full moon rising over the towers. We drive to Goblin Valley today which is about 100 miles from Moab and right in the middle of knowhere. I will post again when I can.

What is this?

Wave Patterns #3

Sometimes people will look at a photograph and are not sure what it is a picture of. When you isolate a portion of a scene as I have done in this image, it becomes color,shapes and designs. There is not much included to identify the scene or give it scale. This was taken several years ago on the Utah-Arizona border in an area called The Coyote Buttes Wilderness. It is quite an otherworldly landscape with its swirling sandstone rock formations. The weather warmed up nicely the day I took this although it was only a few days before Christmas. There was still a little snow on the ground in places with a very small patch visible in the background of this image. The next day it was cloudy and snowing again as we drove from Page, Arizona to Zion National Park.
